We have been searching and researching our families for many years. We discovered that Thomas Pheland (1683-1769) came to the USA from Ireland, married Mary Wallace, but could not have children. He and his wife adopted a son, Joseph, and while Joseph was serving in the Revolutionary War, his last name was changed to PHELON.
Daniel McPeak's (1715-1787) heritage came from Scotland. He was born in Pennsylvania. His son, John moved to South Carolina and settled in York. I thought for years that my gggrandfather William McPeak (1784-1845) was born in Tennessee, but he was born here in South Carolina, our home state.
He later moved to Tennessee, and later to Illinois where he and first wife Martha are buried. His second wife Nancy Dunnavan (1801-1870), was born in South Carolina. Nancy and William had several children. Nancy died at age 69 while living in St. Louis, Missouri area.
With the advent of the Internet and better ancestry sources, we have managed to find a tremendous amout of information. We have also talked with distant relatives and found new links to our genealogies. Sometimes, when you think you have a good lead, it turns out to be nothing, but genealogy is a wonderful thing!
